Student Worker Wins Student Leadership Award



Stephanie Schiefelbein, who works in the Interlibrary Loan department of McIntyre Library, was recognized February 21 at the 2008 Student Leadership Recognition Awards Ceremony. Stephanie received one of four Student Leadership Awards, which salutes students for their accomplishments. Stephanie is the president of Sigma Tau Delta - Theta Zeta, the English Honors Society, which one of the two Student Organization Awards. Stephanie is standing on the far right in the picture.

Stephanie is beginning her second year as a student worker at McIntyre Library and has worked in the Collection Development department before moving to the Interlibrary Loan department. She is a junior who has a double major, English Literature, Music - Liberal Arts, with a minor in Organizational Communication. Her primary instrument is the Clarinet. Earlier this week, Stephanie learned that the UW Eau Claire English Honors Society won a prestigious National Outstanding Chapter Award.

Credo Reference Collection Trial

We're exploring offering access to some of our reference works online. We are currently participating in a trial of Credo Reference Unlimited. The collection offers unlimited access to over 100 reference works (dictionaries, handbooks, encyclopedias, etc.), on campus and off. Here's a list of titles. Student Research Day Posters now available online

Student Research Day posters are now available through the online catalog (title search on "Student Research Day") and in Minds@UW(http://minds.wisconsin.edu/handle/1793/7198). Some fifty students who participated in the May 2007 Student Research Day agreed to participate in the Minds@UW project to digitize their research posters and make them available online. We look forward to seeing this valuable collection of student research grow in upcoming years!

SEARCH EXTENDED: Head, Library Systems

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire McIntyre Library seeks a Head, Library Systems, a probationary tenure track faculty position beginning August 1, 2008.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent
Server administration experience
Familiarity with SQL,Visual Basic
Professional experience managing an automated library system
Documented evidence of successful management of web and systems projects
Knowledge of library web design and scripting languages (Examples include HTML, XHTML, CSS, PHP, XML, JavaScript)
Demonstrated commitment to professional development and potential to meet the library’s tenure and promotion requirements
Excellent organizational , interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to public service

Preferred:
Academic library experience
In-depth understanding of technological trends and developments in academic libraries
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems
Experience with SFX and MetaLib
Experience with ILLIAD and other electronic information loan software
Familiarity with remote patron authentication (EZProxy)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to supporting day-to-day library operations, this position is responsible for managing the information technology resources of the Library to maximize their positive impact on teaching, learning and research for the students, faculty and staff of the University. The Head, Library Systems oversees all aspects of the Library’s Integrated Library System (ILS - Endeavor/Ex Libris’ Voyager) and develops gateways to other information resources, including the Library’s electronic resources, institutional repositories and web presence. The position also provides technical and programming expertise in installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and upgrading system software and in performing critical operations such as extracting/loading data. Working closely with other librarians in a collegial environment, the successful candidate will provide vision and leadership in the investigation and implementation of emerging information technologies.
