Two New Library Displays: Dismantling Racism & Materials Science

Two new displays have been put up in the library.

One display is from the Dismantling Racism Student Caucus.  It asks questions about equality like "Is it easy to find bandages whose skin tone matches your own skin tone?"  This display also contains books of interest such as Tim Wise's "White Like Me" and Beverly Tatum's "Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?"

Dismantling Racism Display

The second display focuses on materials science and nanotechnology.  Examples of how materials science/nanotechnology is used in today's society are given such as Gorilla Glass' use in making our cell phone screens more resistant to damage.

McIntyre Library Offers Free Library Cards to Children of UW-Eau Claire Faculty & Staff

McIntyre Library now provides free library cards to children of UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff.  Cards will be given to children ages 12-17 and are valid for one year; these cards are renewable.  Parents and legal guardians will be responsible for all items checked out on their child’s card, and are asked to observe the same loan periods for library materials as undergraduate students and community members.  Universal Borrowing and Interlibrary Loan services are not extended to child card holders.

McIntyre Library’s Instructional Media Center houses a children’s book collection of materials from preschool through young adult, in both fiction and nonfiction formats.  A library card also allows children access to our vast collection of music and DVDs, as well as books from our main collections.

To register your child(ren) for a McIntyre Library card please visit the library’s Circulation Desk.   For more information contact library.circulation@uwec.edu, call 715-836-3856 or contact Kati Tvaruzka at tvaruzke@uwec.edu or 715-836-4522.
