Art installation project with St. John's University exhibit

Art students and faculty from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire are collaborating with students and faculty from St. John's University on a multimedia project called "Exchange of Silence."

The installations from both schools will be displayed from April 27-28 in the breezeway of McIntyre Library at UW-Eau Claire. UW-Eau Claire student installations will remain on display through May 6. An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m. April 28 in the library breezeway.

The project was developed by Jyl Kelley and Jason Lanka, assistant professors of art at UW-Eau Claire, and Min Kim Park, a visiting professor of art at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn. Students from video, sculpture and digital installation classes at both schools are working from similar themes to create installation pieces.

The title was inspired in part by contemporary artist John Cage's work. Lanka and Kelley said Cage created sound art that presented the contemporary world in a new perspective. Students participating in the collaboration are challenged to create new perspectives and interpretations of their experiences.
UW-Eau Claire students participating in the project are sophomore Phillip Schladweiler, Beloit; juniors Jacob Heitzig, Minneapolis, Minn.; Teresa Larrabee, Eau Claire; Laura Kelleher, Woodbury, Minn.; Kelsey Kocvara, De Forest; Jamie Nelson, Edina, Minn.; and Kelly Farrar, St. Louis Park, Minn.; and seniors Megan Byron, Blaine, Minn.; Mathias Hughey, Lodi; Travis Thorson, Ellsworth; Anna Havens, Monticello; Xiangyun Chen; Matthew Ludvigson, De Pere; and Lee Wegener, Hartland.

For more information, contact Jyl Kelley at kelleyja@uwec.edu, Jason Lanka at lankaja@uwec.edu or Min Kim Park at minkimpark@gmail.com.
