McIntyre Library Hosting Eau Claire Backgammon Tournament (Feb. 21 & Feb. 28)

McIntyre Library at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the 1st annual Eau Claire backgammon tournament on February 21 and 28 from 1-5 pm. The tournament, which is FREE and open to UW-Eau Claire students and all residents of the Chippewa Valley is for beginners and experienced players alike. One tournament participant will be randomly selected to win a backgammon set just for participating.

Learn how to play
If you are new to backgammon but still want to participate the library will be hosting informational sessions on how to play at:
  • McIntyre Library (105 Garfield Ave. Eau Claire, WI 54702) on Saturday, February 14 in McIntyre Library from 1-3 pm.
  • L.E. Philips Memorial Public Library (400 Eau Claire St. Eau Claire, WI 54701) on Sunday, February 15 from 1-3 pm and
Registration is not required to learn how to play. 

How the tournament works
The tournament will have a maximum of 32 players (two sixteen team brackets) and run on two consecutive Saturdays.  Players will be required to complete a best-of-three match in the first two rounds to continue playing with rounds three and four being best-of-five matches.  An email will be sent to each player by February 19 telling him/her when their match is scheduled. Rounds 1 and 2 will be completed on February 21 and Rounds 3 and 4 will be completed on February 28.  First round matches will be determined based upon participant's skill level.

Registration is required to enter the tournament.

Location
McIntyre Library will host all rounds of the tournament (Feb. 21 & 28) and is located on the UW-Eau Claire campus at 105 Garfield Ave. Eau Claire, WI 54702.  Parking at UW-Eau Claire is free on the weekends.  Please consult this map (PDF) for location information.  Suggested locations to park are the Phillips Lot or Hibbard Lot.

Registration
Registration is FREE and is required to participate in the tournament.  To register send an email indicating your interest in participating to Hans Kishel, UW-Eau Claire librarian: kishelhf@uwec.edu.

Please register by February 17.

Additional Information
The grand prize will be a backgammon set, to be randomly selected from all tournament contestants. Light refreshments will be served during the 3rd and 4th rounds on February 28.  Winners of each bracket will receive a t-shirt.
