New Digital Collection in Special Collections & Archives

McIntyre Library is happy to announce a new digital collection as part of Special Collections & Archives.  The Jeanette Gaffney Miller Collection tells a broader story of student life at Eau Claire in the 1920s, and just like other digital collections available on the McIntyre Library's digital collections webpage, this new digital collection serves as an exciting and compelling way to experience UW-Eau Claire’s history as the University Centennial approaches in 2016.

Items from the Gaffney Miller Collection including student class schedules, university theater production programs, commencement programs, student speeches, and football tickets from the late 1920’s, are now available for all to view. This is a great opportunity for students, researchers, and the general public to experience a new understanding of Eau Claire’s past, and to observe more about the university in its modern standing.

Robert Frost Poetry Celebration, March 26, 4 pm

McIntyre Library, the UW-Eau Claire English Department, and UW-Eau Claire Foundation are proud to host a poetry reading of Robert Frost's work on Wed. March 26 at 4 pm on the 3rd floor of Centennial Hall. Readers will include Chancellor James Schmidt, current Wisconsin poet laureate Max Garland, and current Eau Claire City Council President Kerry Kincaid.

In addition to the poetry reading, select highlights from the Frederick G. and Joan Christopherson Schmidt Robert Frost Collection recently acquired by McIntyre Library's Special Collections & Archives will be on display during this event.

New Digital Collections Website Celebrates Campus History

Its official – the McIntyre Library's Special Collections and Archives has gone digital! Since early 2013, we have been creating a digital collections to feature University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire archival collections. UW-Eau Claire students, staff, alumni, and community members can easily view campus photographs and browse or search through a full set of the campus yearbook, The Periscope, from 1917-1995, with this online tool. New collections will be added as we continue digitizing them.

In addition to online items, a panel exhibit is located on the 5th floor outside the Special Collections and Archives Department that features photographs, yearbooks, and information about the digital collections. Robert Frost Collection Housed in McIntyre Library's Special Collections & Archives

The Frederick G. and Joan Christopherson-Schmidt Robert Frost Collection is now available for use by researchers in McIntyre Library’s Special Collections and Archives.  This private collection — acquired by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation from Joan Christopherson-Schmidt of Milwaukee — is believed to be one of the most extensive Robert Frost collections maintained outside of academia.

Frederick Schmidt began collecting Frost’s books as a youth and continued this endeavor throughout his life.  Schmidt was introduced to Frost in 1942 and the two men bonded over their shared interests of nature and poetry.  They were to remain lifelong friends.  The collection includes 44 Frost books, most of which are first- or rare limited editions, including many that have been signed and inscribed by the poet.  Also included in the collection are manuscript materials of handwritten poetry, Christmas cards and pamphlets, as well as dozens of books about Frost.

To see the Frost Collection for yourself, please stop by Special Collections and Archives which is located on the 5th floor of McIntyre Library.  In addition to the Frost Collection, Special Collections has other rare books, manuscript collections, and university records.
