22nd Annual Giving Project to Support HMAA Rice Pantry

Today McIntyre Library kicks off its annual holiday giving project raising money for a local organization’s work against hunger in our community.

For the 22nd year, the UW-Eau Claire McIntyre Library Staff Association, a voluntary organization composed of library faculty and staff, is sponsoring an annual fundraiser to benefit the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (HMAA).

Funds are used to purchase rice for the organization's rice pantry. Last year the Staff Association was able to raise funds to buy over 9000 pounds of rice for the HMAA.

“In a year when many communities across the country are reporting increased acts of racism and marginalization, it is especially important to support our neighbors and let them know we value them as members of our community,” said Jill Markgraf, Head of Research and Instruction at McIntyre.

The HMAA is a social service agency that serves the local Hmong community by operating a food pantry and assisting in housing, employment and translating services. The agency also works with other area services to assist the local Hmong community.

A donation of $20 can feed a family of five or six for a month.

Donations will be collected now through the 31st of December.

Donations are tax deductible and can be made online at https://connect.uwec.edu/library by selecting Holiday Giving Project – HMAA Rice Pantry as the donation designation.

Donations can be made as gifts, memorials and tributes to someone

Last day to support $$ for Rice Project

It's time again for the McIntyre Library annual holiday giving project, and as in years past, we will be raising funds to purchase rice for the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (HMAA) food pantry.

The library has held the fundraiser for more than a decade, raising thousands of dollars to purchase rice distributed to those in need through the HMAA.

The HMAA is a social service agency that serves the local Hmong community by operating a food pantry and assisting in housing, employment and translating services. The agency also works with other area services to assist the local Hmong community.

More than 160 families rely on the food pantry for their basic sustenance. However, decreased funding during the past year has resulted in depleted food supplies, forcing the pantry to close its doors for several months due to a lack of rice to distribute. Winter is the season of greatest need, as families cannot rely on the harvest of their gardens during these months.

If you choose to participate, please make checks payable to McIntyre Library Staff Association, and submit by Dec. 10 to Dan Hillis in Room 5012 of McIntyre Library. Names of contributors will be included on a card accompanying the donation that will be given to the HMAA. Contributors who want to be anonymous should indicate so. Please include an email address if you would like confirmation of the receipt of your contribution.
Anyone is welcome to contribute to the library staff's project.

If you know of someone who might be interested, please forward this message.

Library fundraiser to buy rice

It's time again for McIntyre Library’s annual holiday giving project, which as in years past is a fundraiser to purchase rice for the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (HMAA). The current economic crisis, combined with a worldwide rice shortage that has driven the cost of rice up by as much as 50 percent in recent months, makes the need great this year.

The HMAA is a social service agency that serves the local Hmong community in a number of ways. HMAA operates a food pantry and assists in housing, employment and translating services. It works in concert with other area services to assist our Hmong community.
For more than a decade, the McIntyre Library Staff Association has held the annual fundraiser through which voluntary contributions have totaled thousands of dollars. Last year the effort raised $485 to purchase 925 pounds of rice. Many families rely on this service for their basic sustenance.

The project is open to anyone wishing to contribute. Please make checks payable to: McIntyre Library Staff Association, and submit to Dan Hillis, Staff Association Treasurer, 5012 McIntyre Library, by Friday, Dec. 12. Names of contributors will be included on a card accompanying the donation and given to the HMAA. Contributors who wish to remain anonymous should indicate so. Please contact Jill Markgraf (36-5357) with questions.

Library holiday giving project raises funds for Hmong families

McIntyre Library held its annual holiday fundraiser to benefit the eau Claire Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (HMAA). Individual contributions from library staff and others in the campus community totaled $485, enabling the HMAA to purchase more than 900 pounds of rice. In a letter of thanks, HMAA Interim Executive Director, Yong Kay Moua wrote, "Your donation comes at a critical time when we especially need to help families with unanticipated food emergencies over the winter season. Due to increases in home heating and utility costs, an increasing number of families are registering with our agency to receive rice."
