Poll III: A Coffee Cart in the Library

McIntyre Library is always looking for ways to be more open and inviting, and one way that libraries across the country have enhanced their environments was through the installation of a coffee cart or cafe. This week's poll asks you whether the McIntyre Library should have a coffee cart, what hours it should be open, and what it should serve.

Thank you all so much for your feedback thus far regarding a possible library book drop on upper campus and the choice of a silent study floor. While the library book drop poll was not conclusive, the response to the silent study floor question was overwhelming. We'll be announcing the results of both polls and also which floor(s) will be silent later this week, based on your feedback.

I think it should only be open a couple of hours in the morning, otherwise someone is going to have to keep brewing more coffee throughout the day to keep it from getting nasty.

The downside to a coffee cart would probably be more mess for the custodians to clean up.

I think that it would be a great service for students. I think that it would be most beneficial early in the morning, and keeping it going all day wouldn't be beneficial. It would definitely be good for finals weeks, at least.

Many of the beverages and snacks listed as being options to include in the library coffee cart are already offered in the Old Library lobby area, which is a one minute walk from the library lobby. If someone really wants something to eat or drink and didn't bring it with them, they can take a short walk to get it.

Seriously, people, how lazy can we get?

i think that it would be a great idea to have open on the weekends due to the fact that Jazzman's is not open. Otherwise, there is really no need for another location to purchase coffee during the week when Jazzman's is right there.

I think only on the weekends would be useful. There's not many people here early in the morning on weekdays. Plus, Jazzmans is closed on weekends.

I think it's a wonderful idea. I believe having the coffee cart available to students in the mornings and evenings would be very beneficial. Also having it 24/7 during finals week would be wonderful.

Great idea! (Although people could be bringing it with them, it's just one more thing to carry, and i find I usually have several other errands to run, i.e. can't go straight to the library) Besides, the coffee in the Old Library is not really *coffee*...
I'd definitely be a customer here!

I think a coffee cart would be great in the mornings, especially for people who don't want to get up early to stop at Davies and wait in line before early morning class.

As one of the previous people said, are we really too lazy to walk ONE minute to get a drink or snack? Please...we don't need another cofee cart.

I think a coffee cart would be great, probably for late night study sessions. How about coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?

Great idea. I dont want to wait in line and shell out 8 bucks for coffee that tastes like there's a dead rat in my cup anyway!

That sounds great! I would vote for the cheap gas station capaccinos to go along with the coffee

I don't drink coffee, so I don't care. But if the library were to offer such a service I would recommend reinforcing the rule of no food or drink the computer labs, because that could get messy!

A library is a place for study and research, not coffee and socialization. This would only create a more chaotic environment than our library has already turned into. Thank you.

Would about a booze cart??? Open 24/7

Anonymous said...

Let's booze it up!

great idea. However several rules should follow up: 1) no food or drinks in computer labs 2) maybe a warning that informs students that they are responsible for any damaged books, magazines, etc.

Coffee would be sweet. A great service.

I think it should be removed as far away from quiet study areas as possible so that the library can remain a quiet place for learning. I'm afraid that by adding a coffee cart, we'll make the library just another place where commerce takes place. Is nothing sacred?

Also, it would be great if the proceeds from the cart could go towards library materials and programs.

The booze idea humors me...

Selling food and drink in a Library is stupid. People shouldn't even be consuming these things in the library. If they want them they can go to one of the near by options.

I think the coffee cart idea in the library is ridiculous!! The library is a place for learning, and it should be kept as such. However, if there was a cart outside of the library area, and the money went to fund for new books, etc. then I would be okay with it.

i think something like what is in hibbard would be helpful, although if it were open later than 2 that would better.

I think it would be a great idea to serve the coffee both in the morning and late at night.

This could also help to give more students jobs on campus.
