Books Donated in Memory of Former McIntyre Librarian

Image from: http://smithsonianapa.org
Last May, former McIntyre Librarian Cleo Powers passed away. With over 30 years of service to McIntyre Library, including serving as acting director of the library from 1996-1998, many faculty, staff, and students donated to the McIntyre Library Foundation in Cleo's memory.

McIntyre Library staff couldn't think of any better way to honor Cleo than to use the money to purchase books for the Instructional Media Center (IMC) which she was responsible for creating when it was known as the Center for Reserve and Instructional media (CRIM). Universal Borrowing - Unavailable During Upgrade April 9 - May 20

Universal Borrowing, the ability to borrow books and other circulating items from other UW System campuses, will be unavailable during an upgrade to the library's circulation system April 9-May 20.

All loan requests must be sent via McIntyre Library's Interlibrary Loan system ILLiad. We suggest using WorldCat to submit book requests because this will automatically populate the ILLiad form which will help expedite any requests you make.

Because Interlibrary Loan is different than Universal Borrowing there will be some differences:

  • Loan Periods: Faculty/Staff will NOT get semester loans. The due date is dictated by the lending library. There are no exceptions.
  • Renewals: Most libraries allow 1 renewal, but some do not. Renewal due dates are not generated instantaneously. Renewals can be placed through ILLiad, or send an email to library.ill@uwec.edu
  • Fines/Fees: ILL overdue charges are $1/day.
  • Turnaround Time: Items may take 1 extra day to arrive.
Thank you for your patience as we upgrade the library's circulation system. If you have any questions, please direct them to library.ill@uwec.edu or 715-836-5377.

Bus now stops at McIntyre Library

Last spring a survey conducted by students in Carolin Azab’s Marketing 334 class in collaboration with McIntyre Library identified a need for a bus stop at the library. This suggestion has now been put into action. The Eau Claire Transit route 9 bus now stops at the Garfield Avenue entrance to the library Monday through Friday evenings when classes are in session. From 5:02 p.m. to 10:02 p.m. the bus stops at McIntyre hourly two minutes after the hour. Students, faculty and staff with a valid UW-Eau Claire Blugold ID Card may ride this and any other city bus free. Buses are equipped with bicycle racks. McIntyre Library thanks Eau Claire Transit and the University Senate Physical Plant Planning Committee for their responsiveness to this request to improve access and safety for students.

Tax Forms at McIntyre Library

Tax season is upon us! McIntyre Library offers Federal, Wisconsin, and Minnesota tax forms.

Visit McIntyre Library to pick up the following tax forms, or simply download and print them:

Beginning in 2015, the IRS has reduced the number and type of tax forms distributed to libraries. The IRS is no longer providing print copies of instructional booklets. For IRS forms other than 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ, and for any IRS instructional booklet, visit IRS Forms & Publications to download and print the document you need.

To pick up tax forms, you can also visit the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library or your local IRS office.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program provides free assistance to taxpayers who earn less than $53,000 annually at several locations in the Eau Claire area.

For questions about McIntyre Library's tax forms, contact Robin Miller, Government Publications Librarian.

Reservations No Longer Needed for Equipment Checkout & Study Rooms

Checking out a laptop
The way that students check out equipment and study rooms from McIntyre Library has changed. Starting at the beginning of the spring 2015 semester, we are no longer able to create reservations on all equipment (laptops, iPads, phone chargers, etc.) and study rooms. All equipment and rooms are now checked out on a first come, first serve basis.

This change comes in preparation for the library moving to a new checkout software that does not allow reservations. Other aspects of equipment checkout are the same. If you have any questions, please contact the circulation department (715-8336-3858, library.circulation@uwec.edu).

Annual giving project to support Rice Pantry raises $1295.65!

The McIntyre Library Staff Association giving project to support the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (HMAA) rice pantry raised $1295.65. This is a whopping 46% increase over last year and our second highest total ever! Every penny goes toward buying rice, and this contribution will buy more than 9000 pounds of rice,  making a difference in the lives of our Eau Claire area neighbors.

Thanks to all who participated, by donating, fielding questions, and spreading the word. We were fortunate this year to have the assistance of UW-Eau Claire Foundation in establishing the online donation option and managing the contributions, and Andrew Vue, representing some of the Hmong student groups, who helped get the word out.

Give a little, make a big difference. Library annual giving project under way

https://connect.uwec.edu/library
It's Giving Tuesday, the perfect day to launch the annual holiday giving project to benefit  community members in need.

For the 20th year, the UW-Eau Claire McIntyre Library Staff Association, a voluntary organization composed of library faculty and staff, is sponsoring an annual fundraiser to benefit the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association.Funds are used to purchase rice for the organization's rice pantry, and in the last 10 years (for which records exist) the project has raised a total of almost $8000. A donation of $5 can feed a family of five or six for a week.

The HMAA is a social service agency that serves the local Hmong community by operating a food pantry and assisting in housing, employment and translating services. The agency also works with other area services to assist the local Hmong community.

  • Donations are tax deductible and can be made online at https://connect.uwec.edu/library by selecting Holiday Giving Project – HMAA Rice Pantry as the donation designation.
  • Donations can be made as gifts, memorials and tributes to someone. To do so, select Memorial/Tribute under What prompted you to give today.
  • Checks, made payable to UW-Eau Claire Foundation and indicating Holiday Giving Project – HMAA Rice Pantry on the memo line, or cash should be submitted via mail or campus mail to Jill Markgraf in McIntyre Library.
