McIntyre Library is seeking new members for its Student Advisory Committee.
The Student Advisory Committee provides feedback to the library on ways in which we can improve the services & spaces of the library. Members also help the library select new books, DVDs, and music for the our collection.
Examples of how the committee has helped the library over the past year include asking for the library to replace bean bags that had been discarded, adding headsets with microphones to the equipment checkout pool, helping with the planning of the pancakes during finals week event, and purchasing a variety of DVDs including all of the X-Men movies and all seasons of Game of Thrones.
The first meeting of the year will be on October 28 at 5 pm. Pizza will be served to student members.
For more information on how to become a member please contact Eric Jennings jenninge@uwec.edu

More Computers in McIntyre Library
You may have noticed some changes between last year and this
year, especially on the first floor. Because of the first floor
renovation and the 24 Hour Lab’s closure, McIntyre Library has more
computers available for student use than ever before. In fact, when the
renovation is complete we will have over 125 computers available for students
to use, including over a dozen available 24/7 in the library’s 24 hour study. We have added computers on most other floors and also added a handful more collaboration pods with large screens on the first floor.
The image in this blog post shows a map of the first floor with its computer stations (as of 9/22/15) and type of computer available. Please note that the library instruction lab (L1033) is an open computer lab with 30 computers to use when a class is not using it.
The addition of computers in the library has yet to be completed. More will be added in the coming days and weeks. Thank you for your patience as we work to make the library a better space for your studying needs.

FREE PIZZA, games, live entertainment at McIntyre Library After Dark on Sept. 2
After Dark, which takes place on Wednesday, September 2nd from 6:30-10:30 pm, is everything that you didn’t think would
happen in a library - like FREE PIZZA - but does. Featuring a mini golf
course that starts on the second floor and ends on the first (yes, you
get to go down a stairwell!), After Dark also includes a variety of
board, card, and video games…we even have a life size version
of Clue in which you are the characters (complete with costumes) that
walk around the board trying to find out who killed Mr. Boddy.
If you think you’re good at Mario Kart you’ll want to enter the Mario Kart Tournament with a very nice prize going to the overall champion. If you’ve always thought a library would be a good place to play laser tag, you’re in luck. Challenge your friends or make new ones on our course.
Did we mention pizza? Who doesn’t like free Toppers pizza?! Lots of it too! The fun doesn’t stop there though. We have a variety of student groups on campus who will provide live entertainment - a magician, an improv comedy team, and standup comedians. Best of all, you can win prizes throughout the night just for attending.
You really have no reason not to and if you do, you can call your parents up and tell them you’re in the library on the first night of class!
Find the event on Facebook and be sure to invite your friends!

A New Look for the First Floor
Although the library looks very quiet and empty, big changes are in store for next Fall.
The first floor of McIntyre Library will undergo some needed renovation this summer. Our campus mall entrance doors are being replaced. Constant exposure to winter weather and salt have corroded the doors so much that they weren’t closing properly. The new doors will be ready for our students in the fall. We are also giving the checkout area a new look and making big changes to how our computer stations are organized. Last year the UW System provided some temporary funding to System libraries. This means that McIntyre Library will receive some one-time budget relief in this time when all of our other budget news is bleak. Library staff met to discuss how we best take advantage of this opportunity. We looked at our user surveys and met with student groups as well. In the end we decided to create a more welcoming entrance and to update our learning commons area on our first floor. Christian Paese and the students from the Student Senate Information Technology Commission agreed. They committed matching funds to help us with this project. Christian helped us plan the layout of the space and buy furniture.
Staff from LTS and Facilities Management are preparing the area for the new furniture. Our current computer stations will be removed, carpets will be thoroughly shampooed and new furniture will be moved in over the next two months. The books and equipment checkout area will see some demolition and carpentry work. Please be patient with any dust and noise. All of our services will remain in place during these changes. We are all very excited to welcome our students back in the Fall with a new look.

Universal Borrowing - Unavailable During Upgrade April 9 - May 20
All loan requests must be sent via McIntyre Library's Interlibrary Loan system ILLiad. We suggest using WorldCat to submit book requests because this will automatically populate the ILLiad form which will help expedite any requests you make.
Because Interlibrary Loan is different than Universal Borrowing there will be some differences:
- Loan Periods: Faculty/Staff will NOT get semester loans. The due date is dictated by the lending library. There are no exceptions.
- Renewals: Most libraries allow 1 renewal, but some do not. Renewal due dates are not generated instantaneously. Renewals can be placed through ILLiad, or send an email to library.ill@uwec.edu
- Fines/Fees: ILL overdue charges are $1/day.
- Turnaround Time: Items may take 1 extra day to arrive.

Bus now stops at McIntyre Library
Last spring a survey conducted by students in Carolin Azab’s
Marketing 334 class in collaboration with McIntyre Library identified a need
for a bus stop at the library. This suggestion has now been put into action.
The Eau Claire Transit route 9 bus now stops at the Garfield Avenue entrance to
the library Monday through Friday evenings when classes are in session. From
5:02 p.m. to 10:02 p.m. the bus stops at McIntyre hourly two minutes after the
hour. Students, faculty and staff with a valid UW-Eau Claire Blugold ID Card
may ride this and any other city bus free. Buses are equipped with bicycle racks.
McIntyre Library thanks Eau Claire Transit and the University Senate Physical
Plant Planning Committee for their responsiveness to this request to improve
access and safety for students.

Annual giving project to support Rice Pantry raises $1295.65!
The McIntyre Library Staff
Association giving project to support the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (HMAA) rice pantry raised $1295.65. This is a
whopping 46% increase over last year and our second highest
total ever! Every penny goes toward buying rice, and this contribution will buy
more than 9000 pounds of rice, making a difference in the lives of our
Eau Claire area neighbors.
Thanks to all who participated, by
donating, fielding questions, and spreading the word. We were fortunate this
year to have the assistance of UW-Eau Claire Foundation in establishing the
online donation option and managing the contributions, and Andrew Vue,
representing some of the Hmong student groups, who helped get the word out.
